GAF TRAIL RIDES
GREAT ADVENTURE FELLOWSHIP
GREAT ADVENTURE FELLOWSHIP
GREAT ADVENTURE FELLOWSHIP
               Blowing Rock, NC June 2009

It's Not Easy Being The Only One in Camp with a Pocket Knife....
And so it goes. A group of us left South Carolina early Tuesday morning,
June 23, 2009 headed for Blowing Rock, North Carolina where no one had

broke a sweat yet this year. Yeah, it was cool. Except for an overheated
transmission on one of the trucks, the trip was fairly uneventful.
Arrived mid-day, setup camp, and then went for an afternoon ride.
"Does anyone have a knife?"

Wednesday was another beautiful day as was every day for the rest of
the
week. Not a bit of rain! Made 2 trips to the Tower and another 2 to Rich
Mountain along with every other trail. Went into Blowing Rock for
dinner, ice cream and shopping.  Did the tourist thing and bought
tee-shirts and stuff to bring back. Another day done.
“Larry, can I borrow your knife?"

Rode the trails at least once every day and twice on Sunday. Saw lots of
wildlife like deer, rabbits, a frog, and even a parrot. (You had to be
there.) A couple of cook-outs around the trailers and other meals in
Boone and Blowing Rock. Shopped at Mast General Store (all 3 of them)
along with other stops along the way. Several more days under our belts.
"Knife for bailing twine, please."

Saturday, we all headed to the Bollick Traditions festival. There was
pottery, old engines, pickin', along with good eats. Went back to camp
for an afternoon ride. The horses behaved pretty good for the most part.
A buggy driver with a whip spooked Lori's horse and off she went.
Fortunately, God planted a tree right where she landed, so she didn't
roll far. Bobby had his share of truck problems but got it back on the
road in time for the trip home.
"Can I borrow your knife one more time?"
Everyone made it home safely -- both rider and horses. God blessed us
with the most beautiful weather in all the times we have been going
there. Blowing Rock Equestrian Preserve was also the least crowded that
we have seen in several years. Economy must have hit some folks pretty
hard. Oh, well. Time to start saving again for next year. I think I will start
saving for another knife -- mine is all worn out.

Sweetheart Trail Ride
Lee State Natural Area
March 21, 2009
It was a great day at Lee State Natural Area. We had 14 riders and
13 horses with a couple of other members that were only able to
join in on the fellowship and Paul Daily meeting after the ride. We
started out by going into the wooded trails on the back side near
the boy scout campsite in order to avoid the high water that we
suspected to be at the normal starting point. Thank-yous to Pam
for leading us out. As we rode along the slow horses at the back
keep making it a 2 group ride and as we came back out onto the
river road the 1st group desided to ride it around and down by the
river. It seems that the road that was once under water a few days
ago was now muddy and had alot of washes in the rode. Almost by
devine appointment it seems this group came upon a group of
riders and one rider was in distress. She had fallen off of her horse
and had hurt her hip. Margie was able to reach Larry and Lori back
at the arena by cell phone. Lori was able to find the Ranger who
drove down in a four wheeler and carried her back to camp. After a
restful night the lady seemed only to be a little sore the next day.
Getting back to the 2nd group we desided to head back to the
trailors and get a head start on lunch and prepare for the meeting.
The charity was blessed and we had a great time with our friends
and our horses.  Can not wait for the next ride. Hope all are able to
attend.

God is Truly Great,
Johnny & Terri Stokes

The Charity for the day was the Kershaw County Sexual Assault
Center. Items collected were toiletry items, copy paper, small
post-its, pens(black or blue), letter size writing tablets, highlighters,
card stock (plain or colored), Large Ladies pants, Large
sweatpants or tops, and Plain blue childrens t-shirts of various
sizes for clothesline project.
Trail Ride to benefit St Judes Childrens Hospital
                    September 12, 2009

Our St. Jude ride was a big success. We had over forty riders
and some traveled a great distance to join us for this benefit
ride. We raised $2065.00 - GOD IS GOOD! Thank everyone
for all their hard work. It may take 4-5 weeks before gifts are
ordered so please be patient. If you have any questions feel
free to call me at 499-7640.  Be thinking about next year, Yes,
we get to do it all over again, see ya all soon ,        Pam
Devonshire Trail Ride &  Cookout
      April 04, 2009
In all, over thirty members and friends arrived at Devonshire on
Saturday, the 4th of April and were rewarded with a beautiful
afternoon for riding in the woods. The ministry of the month was
“Lee County Cooperative Ministry” This group is organized, funded
and staffed by members of local churches.  Spiritual guidance as
well as furniture, clothing and food items are distributed to all who
inquire.  Many canned food items were brought to the trail ride to
be donated to this worthy cause.  I’m sure God will bless and
multiply these gifts.  As we headed off on our horses we left Chet
at the cabin to oversee getting the campfire going and Marie to
direct latecomers and take pictures. Paces were quickly set and
several groups at different speeds emerged.  The wide trails were
ideal for endurance, trotting and gaiting. We had a ball!  I
understand we even had a bunny or two watch as we passed.
We rode out for about 2 hours taking a different route back to
keep everything interesting.  After everyone took care of their
horses and settled them in, it was time to eat. Jerry and Lori had
prepared all the fixins’ for our hot dogs as well as lots of tea and
colas. Everyone set to work cooking their hot dogs over the open
fire Chet had started for us.  We heaped our plates high, grabbed
our drinks and headed for the picnic tables to sit and enjoy talking
with our friends. Conversation flowed from being lost in the
woods; the latest horse tricks and our own horse’s antics.  We
used the resurrection eggs as a reminder of what our Savior did
for us on the cross.  He not only gave us eternal life but a more
abundant life here on earth. John 10:10 says: “I have come so
that they may have life and have it more abundantly”   We do
have a more abundant
life through Him.  We have so many things
to be thankful for; first and
most important our resurrected Savior.
We then caped the
evening off with dessert Dawn and Marie
contributed.  The evening ended all too soon and we are already
looking
forward to the next outing.
